What Is True Power?

Succeed. Build. Accumulate. Keep growing. The more I did this, the more power I was told I would have in the world.

It’s what we all get told from a young age. We even look up to those whom we see as having achieved these things and only hope to somehow get in on the act.

So we work hard, play hard, and hope that we will arrive.

Does this all sound familiar to you?

Well, this was what I once believed. I was a young man. In a man’s world, these things are what make us powerful, apparently.

I chased it. I longed for it. Then I realised I had been sold a lie.

You see: There was a point in my life where I really thought I had arrived.

I had succeeded. I was doing well from a business sense. I felt acknowledged.

I had built. I had a small property portfolio and investments. I felt secure.

I had accumulated my wealth. I had my toys to play with and show the world I was on the right path.

I was growing. I had even bigger goals and dreams and would keep going. I was motivated and hungry.

But then there came a point where I realised that, after achieving goal after goal, dream after dream, I asked myself: When does it stop? When will I stop and simply be without the need to keep going?

My answer shook me. I realised that this craving to keep going, doing this so that I had it all, had power in this world, in my life, was just an illusion.

When I stopped, I felt a void. I was scared to stop. I didn’t know who I was without all these things in my life. And because I had placed power in all these things, I couldn’t stop. I was controlled by it all.

The freedom that I thought I had because of all my power in the life I had built was not real. My freedom was tied to those things. Thus, I wasn’t free at all.

The more power we think we have in the world, the less power we have within ourselves.

So once feeling secure in my world, I was now diving into my insecurity within having realised my security could be taken away. If we believe we have freedom, security, happiness, or even love, because of what we have externally, it is only temporary. Externals can be taken away.

Taking off my masculine shield of power and my ego trip of an identity, I sought out real power: Power within. The same power we all have within ourselves. No one greater or less. A power that is infinite in its capacity.

Discovering it meant realising all the things that I was labelling as that power and therefore creating a finite experience.

We are all truly limitless. But we must let go of our attachment and needs for what we think completes us. Otherwise we are limiting ourselves by pretending to be small.

My mind fought me. It used emotions, stories and everything that would frighten my own human existence to resist letting go.

Soon enough though, I started to feel and truly know that real power has nothing to do with anything I could ever obtain in this world. I realised my power is in this moment, in the here and now: A feeling that moves through me as Jamie, and all that is. To be one, one energy, and live my life step but step and I stay open to the truth.

We are all capable of power beyond what our minds can conceive. It’s felt within you. I followed it. I am here to play with it.

So remember, just like you. In this moment, I am love.

There is no greater power.
