Fighting For What We Know

Do you ever find that, when someone suggests a new idea or way of doing something, instead of being open to this new possibility, we immediately dismiss it according to what we already know?

What we know can actually limit us more than anything. Sometimes we use what we know to stop us from diving into the unknown.

When we live our lives according to what we know, we feel safe and secure. We can see ten steps in front of us and that is a relief. The fear of doubt doesn’t creep in because we have created a comfy cushion within our life circumstances. We usually refer to this as having found balance in our life.

For me, that balance was about having all my ducks in a line. It meant that I had things in order in my life. For example: I had a secure job, income, and structure in my life that supported me making me feel happy and healthy, successful, and free.

But I took it one step further, then, simply finding balance in my life. I asked myself this question:

Am I totally free? Or, am I just fighting for what I know?’

Well the answer to that was: I wasn’t free. I was stuck. My freedom was all based on what was happening externally. I was convinced that was where my freedom would come from. My freedom was based on how I needed my life to be in order to be free. And I would fight for this out of fear of losing it.

Limitless living is realising that who you truly are is already free and therefore showing up from that space.

It’s like living from the inside out, not the outside in. Living like this was allowing whatever that feeling of freedom would like to do and be at any given moment in my life—regardless of the circumstances.

That may sound “out there” to you. Following that feeling required me to let go of what I know, let go of the how and simply just do it.

Nike had it right all along: Just Do it!

If I live according to what I know, then my thoughts and reality are very real. I am then bound by the rules of what I have decided is real. I am  limited and not open to the possibilities.

Letting go of what I know means making my own rules about what I feel is true for me. It’s letting go of what is right or wrong, positive or negative. It means trusting my natural flow in life.

For me it is a way of being rather than believing I am doing.

Would love to hear, do you follow what you feel or fight more for what you know? Feel free to comment below…
