We all go through our lives wearing at least one mask at some point. Some wear many. We go out into the day pretending to be happy. We pretend we are confident. We pretend we are fulfilled, or we pretend we have it all worked out.
Do you know of these masks? I do…
Stripping off the masks in my own life has taught me so much about being authentic and showing up as my truest self.
In the past, when I have worn a mask, it was always one that had—or so I thought—a meaning to who I was or what I wanted others to think I was.
If I am to believe that I am a certain person because of how I have built my life through a certain mask, then I am doomed. I am never free because I don’t know my true self. Instead, I look in the mirror and see only a version of me. I see the mask I am hiding behind. This is not my true self.
Taking off the mask can be so transformational. At the same time, we are letting go of trying to be someone we aren’t. Its only when we are trying to be someone, or trying to make our lives the way we believe they should be, that we must wear a mask.
So, in taking that mask off, we are opening our hearts and accepting ourselves as simply just being. This means we are not attached to how we are perceived or how we want to be perceived by others.
Allow yourself be naked, raw, and, most of all, vulnerable. When you are, you will actually realise you have nothing to fear, except yourself. Only then will you see there is no need to wear a mask. Only then will you experience freedom and limitlessness in simply being your true self.
