Why Chasing Money Felt Exhausting To Me

I've played the game where my attention is on my bank account, on the balance and how much is in there. There's nothing wrong with that game, but I found it exhausting. It just wasn't for me.

The way I see it is a bit like watching an athlete. When their attention isn't on the scoreboard and they're just playing, they're present to the game. They're in the moment, and they go into flow. When they're chasing the scoreboard, it becomes a different experience. The enjoyment goes out of it.

I find it's the same with life. When my attention is on the balance, I'm playing a different game from the one where I'm simply doing what I love. The bank account can be exactly where it is, but where I put my attention changes how I'm experiencing my life.

I still look after my business. I look at my accounts and where things are at, so this isn't about pretending there's nothing to take care of. I just don't want that to become the reason I do what I do.

For me, there's a difference between taking care of something and spending my life looking to it to tell me whether I'm free. I'd rather play the game where it doesn't matter what's on the scoreboard, because I'm already free.

It's the same with what people think of me. If I'm already free, their opinion doesn't need to become another score for me to chase. I can just do what I love without being so concerned about all of that.

That's the part of this I find interesting. The game doesn't disappear. There's still a business and there's still a bank account, but neither of them needs to be where I go looking for myself.

I'm not sharing that as a way to get a better result. That would just put my attention back on the scoreboard again. What I love about playing is being present to what I'm doing, rather than making the enjoyment of it depend on the score.

Is there something you love doing that has started to feel more like watching the score than being in the game?

I have been mentored by Jamie for the past year. Whether I'm happy or sad or really angry he has been steady in his ability to help me always find my truth.

Being mentored by Jamie is not for the faint-hearted. He has the remarkable ability to create a powerful space in which despite the discomfort, I was able to start being totally honest with myself and identify the limiting thoughts and behaviours that held me back.

Jamie is a wonderful mentor with huge heart! He is very open and has a gentle way about him which puts me at ease when speaking with him.
