Being A Kid

This week, I visited one of my friends whose son was in hospital. Her son was in a pretty serious state due to a sudden infection. So, he was in the intensive care unit of the hospital. I was chatting with one of the nurses in the ward. She told me how kids seem to bounce back so quickly, compared to adults. As I looked around, I began to notice how present the kids were—considering their circumstances.

Kids have such a natural ability to be present with where they are and what they are doing in life. They are dedicated to the moment, they are simply being.

That made me ponder on why children seem to recover quicker than adults. I realized that one of the biggest factors was probably presence. The children don’t go into their minds and start worrying about scenarios or the details of what’s going beyond this moment. They are just open to experiencing everything that is present in the moment.

I noticed, in my life, how there are areas where I don’t really think about it and others areas where I do catch myself thinking about it. I realize my space becomes full. Life become effortful and sometimes fear creeps in.

This week, those children made me realize that I should treasure my moments and, even more, open my heart to what I am experiencing and to be nowhere else but here. Yes, life is happening. But, that’s not for me to worry about or get caught up in. I am here to experience what I am experiencing now. The more open I am, the more of what I love flows through me, into this moment.

Do you realize areas in your life where you catch yourself worrying about things or you are consumed by thoughts? Next time you do, try connecting with your inner child and to find the bliss that is this moment.
