How To Create Space

We all have different things going on in our lives. We all have different paths. None is the same. That’s what makes us all unique. You have your own special story to play out.

I always look at my life and how I feel about it as a reflection of how true I’m living. These days, I feel myself dropping deeper and deeper into my own truth. I have noticed how my life reflects more of that which I love.

It’s not what is in life that I love. It’s that I feel a deeper connection with who I truly am. This is love. It gets expressed through me and into life.

What I am essentially feeling is space. Unconditional Love is just that, empty space, energy with no label or judgment. That space is who I am. It is who you are. A few years ago, I had things in my life that took up a lot of space. I thought those things in my life were who I am. I was attached to those things outside of me: finances, career, health, relationships. So, I had placed power in all these things. That also meant these things controlled me. All this took up my space. As a result, what I truly loved I didn’t really experience. In some cases, I didn’t even know what it was that I truly loved!

My mind was a mess with all the things I was worried about. I had no room in there for me.

So, I decided to change things. I started noticing how I felt about my story. If I was to read a short book about the person I was, how would I feel about that right now? This made me realize it was time to let go.

Below are some of the steps I took to create space in my own life.

1.    Be Willing to Go through It

We are all aware of the changes that we want to take in our life. But, just as quickly, fear comes up. It’s that voice that starts to reason with you and convince you about what is and what isn’t possible.

Allow yourself to confront that voice (or voices). If you don’t, you will always be a slave. You will never know what may have been possible.

2.    Love Now

This very moment, start to acknowledge the things you love. I don’t care if it’s as small as washing your face in the morning with clean water. Just start to appreciate your life now. This will allow you to see more of the things you really love to do and be.

3.    Be Still

Slow down. Take time to stop and feel—whatever your practice may be in doing this. Consider even just going to your local beach or park and just sitting.

4.    Find a Mentor

Find someone that has taken the steps before you, someone that has lived through a similar experience to help guide you home. I couldn’t have created the changes within myself if I hadn’t had mentors before me that always pointed out the truth rather than allowing me to get lost in my story.

You are here to live the life you love. not for life to decide how you live.

It’s not a quick fix that you are looking for. You are just looking to learn how to live from your heart, moment by moment, no matter what the circumstances.
