Why do I do what I do? Why, why, why?
I love this very simple question. I believe it allows us to dive deeper into dissecting who we are and how we show up. I constantly ask myself this question. I have a piece of paper on which, every few months or so, I rewrite my why.
Why I do what I do?
It’s been interesting to see how it changes. Every time, it seems to come from a deeper space. At the same time, my why seems to get simpler and simpler.
It used to be more about things and stuff I wanted to have in my life. Now, it’s more about what I am bringing into my life from a feeling perspective. It looks to be more about how I can get what I feel on the inside out into life and share that with people.
I know there was a time when I had become so consumed by life that, when I first asked that question, I didn’t really know what the answer was. Therefore, I made it about a lot of external things. That was where my focus was and that’s where my power was. I felt pretty disconnected from anything to do with my feeling. I definitely wasn’t living a heart-filled life then.
Today, ask yourself: Why? Why do you do what you do?
I love this TED talk by Simon Sinek called ‘How Great Leaders Inspire Action’. It gives a great understanding of why it is so important to know your why.
