I Can’t Change

I can’t change—even if I tried, even if I wanted to.

Hear me out here! When I say ‘I’, I am talking about my identity, or as you may know it, the ego.

You see: When we look at ourselves and then decide to change something about who we are, we are usually doing it from a place of judgment upon ourselves. If we are in judgment of the person we are, we will only find a temporary fix for that part of ourselves that we have judged and then wish to change.

I have come to realise that, rather than being in judgement, I have had to learn to embrace those parts of me I felt needed to improve, change, or be fixed. As I did this, I actually began to get to know myself on such a different level. The process is confronting. It invited so much feeling and emotion. But, I also felt more open and effortless because I wasn’t trying to understand myself.

The only part of me that wants to understand itself is the identity. It wants to find stories, excuses, and reason for being the way I am rather than embracing and letting go.

I truly believe that there is nothing wrong with any of us. It is just our mind—aka ego—that would have us believe we are flawed because then it has more reason to exist. Your stories of the past, then, matter and the future becomes important to who you will become.

Who we truly are is found right here. Right now. Quiet your mind. Feel your feet on the ground.

Take a breath… Welcome to the present moment. Welcome home to who you truly are.

Now let the work begin.
