In the Flow

Have you ever heard of being in the flow? Or, in the zone? You may have heard this in sports when a player is said to be in the zone, or someone talks about their day being in the flow. Basically, it’s when someone finds that they are so present and aligned with what they are doing that they make all the right moves in a somewhat effortless way. Every next step seems to land in the perfect place and a flow of each moment follows perfectly after the other.

Every day, we are experiencing flow in all areas of lives. We like to take credit for it and notice it when things are occurring perfectly with that which we highly value.

This may occur at work when you seem to be on fire. Every decision and result syncs up, providing the perfect outcome. Or, it may happen in a relationship when you experience bliss with your partner. Love feels present. Your souls seem to dance in sync with each other’s every thought, move, and touch.

The flow is a sign of how present you are. When you are present and in the moment, you will find yourself traveling with the flow of life, a divine energy.

This energy actually comes from within. It is part of everything around you. It is the very essence of who you are. Not you as the body but you as the being. When you let go and follow this being sense (which is a feeling) you allow yourself to follow your truth in each moment. Thinking becomes second to that voice which comes from feeling, your intuition.

If you’re someone who would like to be more in the flow, here are some suggestions that I have found helpful:

Quiet your thinking. Take time to quiet your mind and drop into your heart. At first, I did this through meditating for short periods throughout the day. I did it to feel and experience that space beyond my thinking. This space is a feeling of emptiness and expansiveness. The more you practice going there, the more you will be able to integrate it into every moment. It is definitely an art. Be patient.

Let go. We all have ideas and beliefs regarding who we think we are and how our life should be. I suggest letting go of these and opening your heart to the infinite possibilities of the next moment.

No needs.  Every time you catch yourself thinking about or feeling you need to have or do something, take the time to go beyond it. Realize that you can let go of this need. You are  already an infinite being that needs nothing.

Be authentic.  If, in more moments than not, you can be your authentic self, you will start to reveal a true power that lies within you. Many people are living in hell on earth because they are so scared to speak, do, or be their authentic self. By not doing so, you are imprisoning yourself. No one else is doing this to you. You’re doing it to yourself. Be brave. Step out and be you. Be authentic.

Love now.  I heard this phrase from a new friend and incredible transformational teacher named Kute Blackson. He speaks about loving now. Following your love in this moment. We have all heard the phrase: Do what you love. But, seriously, how many of us truly do this? It seems so simple but we make it so hard. So, I’m telling you and sharing with you from my own freeing experience: Just do it. Love now!

Would love to hear from you if you have felt your flow before? Or how do you best find it supportive to get into your flow?
