Expanding Space

Previously, in other posts, I have spoken about what it means to hold space. Connecting to who you truly are and allowing yourself not to get caught up in your circumstances is what takes up a lot of space.

So, what do you do when your circumstances seem to get louder or distract you more than usual?

The most important and valuable thing to me each day is my space. I don’t mean this as in: “I love being alone.” I mean this in a mind and thinking sense.

When circumstances sometimes become noisy or intense, what I have found is that by just allowing what is occurring to be experienced, I am actually creating space. If I go into trying to change, improve, or fix something, then it feels like that space becomes small.

I go into having to think about it. If I am honest, I am only trying to change or fix something because of my own agendas or needs.

For example: say I would like to get more views on my blog. I could go into doing mode and try new marketing or strategies to build a larger audience. If this is me doing this, then I am always going to be relying on me having to do something in order to get to a certain point. I become a slave to my own doing rather than simply appreciating what is. This is because I have agendas regarding why I want to grow the audience.

When I appreciate what is and don’t get caught up in having to do something out of judgment for where I am right now, my space actually expands. My attention is open to limitless possibilities rather than trying to find limited ways to deal with things.

It’s when I stay in this expanded space that what’s true for me will move through me or the parts of me in the story that I am experiencing.

Next time you find yourself confronted by something in life that consumes your space, try practicing just experiencing it for what it is and expanding your own space.
